TThe Boston Red Sox might go on to change their season, but if they don’t, Xander Bogaerts is a realistic candidate to be traded on the deadline.

The Red Sox Bogaerts made a bid this season, but it wasn’t close to the $31 million—$34 million AAV required the short star to consider his next deal. With a player dropping out after this season, you can expect Bogaerts to test the free agent market.

The Bogaerts are cutting .331/.389/.472 this season with .860 OPS and 145 OPS+. Those numbers add up to a lot of money – well over the $20 million the 29-year-old is set to make next season.

While Boston was unwilling to match Bogart’s AAV number, the number of years on his deal is also a hot topic of conversation in the coming months. Bogarts will be on the other side of the 30-year-old before next season. Would the Red Sox be comfortable allocating so much money to a player in his mid to late 30s?

Add to that that the Sox still has to push the younger Raphael Davers after the Bogaerts – and that they have a short vocal currently playing second base in Trevor Story – and re-signing the Bogaerts might not be in their favour.

With that in mind; Let’s play the doomsday scenario. Let’s say the Red Sox feel they have to trade Xander Bogaerts. What teams will level up, and what can Boston get in return?

Red Sox rumors: A potential trade deal for the braves for Xander Bogaerts

Braves Get

Xander Bogarts

Get a Red Sox

Dansby Swanson

Bryce Elder

Jesse Franklin V

Tyler Collins

I detailed this trade on Thursday as a “best case scenario” for a potential trade for Boston. They would get the likes of Swanson to replace the Bogaerts directly, and some potential capital in return. Here is the argument:

Elder, meanwhile, is an MLB-ready starting arm, ranking fifth in the Braves system. He’s not a top 100 in MLB, however, in the MLB Pipeline.

Franklin is only 11 in the Braves system, but he’s out of the 20-20 season nearly in the minors and could provide a fourth player for a team that can use depth, honestly. Collins is a 19-year-old turned climber in the Atlanta system. He’s the wild card of this entire trade, as he already has the electric speed of the likes of Jackie Bradley Jr. on the court.

You read it correctly. It’s Dansby and two potential Top 15 teams, and another potential big link on the road at Collins. However, Swanson is of no use if the Braves trade with the Bogaerts, so this is a smart trade-off.

Atlanta will avoid trading top 4 prospects.”

Any deal for the Bogaerts should give the Red Sox some big league-ready talent, as well as an addition to their farm system. Swanson would be a cheaper alternative to the Bogaerts, but still come out of a hack year. Elder and Franklin are both MLB ready, and could contribute to Boston in the not too distant future.
