Memorial Day offered the New York Yankees their first day off in three weeks, but Aaron Judge says he and his teammates would rather play.
Between May 8 and May 29, the Yankees played 23 games in 22 days.
It’s been a grueling run that’s starting to show its stress over the past week. While they went 15-8 during this stretch, New York have lost five of their last nine, including games on Saturday and Sunday against Reese.
After that last game, with a break finally arriving on Memorial Day, Aaron Judge revealed he’d rather play.
Aaron Judge says the Yankees don’t want a vacation
“I think everyone here wants to play again. Despite their 18th place finish at home led by MLB, Judge said. “This team is hungry. We have a lot to prove.”
Tampa Bay split the series with a 3-1 victory on Saturday and a 4-2 win on Sunday. The Yankees took the first two games 7-2 and then 2-0.
New York sits 4.5 games ahead of its Middle Eastern rivals. They are half a game behind the Dodgers for the best baseball record.
A loss to Rays might leave a bad taste in Judge’s mouth but his team remains one of the best performing players in the league this year. They will play 19 of 28 games at Yankee Stadium’s friendly borders, starting with a series against the Angels on Tuesday. There will be more than enough chances to prove themselves with the onset of summer.
In the meantime, the judge and company should enjoy the rest while they can get it.
