This week’s MLB Power Rankings boosted several teams as some of the best.
It has officially arrived. it’s a Memorial Day. This is the day when the MLB rankings really measure a team’s greatness or weakness. It’s the unofficial start of summer. Suddenly, the MLB Power ratings are pinned in place a little more than they were a week ago.
This week’s list doesn’t have as many big swings as some of the previous ones, including last week’s 30 list. In fact, two of the top teams are exactly where they have been and are looking to lock themselves into a certain top ten position.
In this week’s MLB Power Rankings, we’re highlighting the best and the clubs that continue to let the fans down.
30) MLB Power Rankings: Kansas City Royals
A new team is at the bottom of the MLB Power Rankings this week. Welcome to the pit of despair, the Kansas City Royals! You keep losing, the running differential is terrifying, and there’s no sign that things will get any better.
As usual, members of the royal family are outdone. Playing in a division with as many teams as less than 0.500 teams did not help. Hunter Dozier finally gave Andrew Benintendi some company on the offensive side of things. Other than that performance, everything else about the 2022 Royals race was offensive to the fans.
29) MLB Power Rankings: Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pittsburgh Pirates may not have the worst record in baseball or even in their own division. However, they are second in this week’s MLB Power Ranking due to how gray those clouds over PNC Park are.
The hacker doesn’t get much from anyone other than veteran hire Jose Quintana. Fans probably didn’t expect the losses to pile up more than anything else. It’s a shame that such a beautiful pitch will be lost again in 2022. The Buccaneers start the week with a running difference of -84 which shows the root cause of their problems this year.
28) MLB Power Rankings: Cincinnati Reds
Cincinnati Reds fans can celebrate. This might be the best you can get. The Reds actually took a few wins and climbed out of the 30th spot. On Sunday, Tyler Mahley was able to give them a chance to beat any hitter.
As they continue to bring players back from IL, the Reds should be able to appear more respected. It’s not impossible to get past the other two bad teams within the department. Will we see a fight for third place or are there three teams jostling and looking to secure a better draft? Either way, enjoy 28th place this week, Reds fans.
27) MLB Power Rankings: Detroit Tigers
A place here for the Detroit Tigers isn’t about putting our energy bar on them and more about how terrifying the three teams behind them have been on this list lately and over the course of the year. The Tigers are missing a solid solid performance from their folds this year. Fortunately for them, they should be able to shop for many of these players on the trading deadline and restock themselves well into the future.
The Tigers have a solid base that could be key in the trade deadline to prepare themselves for a better run in 2023. This won’t happen this year. They had too many injuries and didn’t get enough offense. Children are not ready to perform at a high level. Consider the Tigers a competitor every week to finish in last place.
26) MLB Power Rankings: Washington Nationals
Exactly the same thing that was said about the tigers above can be attributed to the citizens of Washington. The Nationals are able to end the year with the most losses in the sport because of how bad their team is. An assembled lineup could do well enough to get them close to .500 but without pitching a helping hand it just wouldn’t.
This offense may be the only reason the Nationals haven’t fallen behind in the MLB Power rankings. They came into this season with the intention of getting over it. Juan Soto feels inevitable at some point even if not this summer. Their place in the MLB Power rankings could only improve because the show was so poor.
