Ian Rapoport, an NFL insider, went to The Pat McAfee Show to show where Odell Beckham Jr. is likely to play in 2022 and why the deal is on hold.
The utter frenzy of the NFL offseason appears to have worn off, but that doesn’t mean top-tier talent remains available on the open market.
Odell Beckham Jr., once famous as the best footballer in his early career, is still a free agent despite the name and talent he possesses. After a difficult stint with the Cleveland Browns, the OBJ story completely reversed course once he was released from Baker Mayfield and linked up with Sean McVeigh and Matthew Stafford in Los Angeles.
The result was the Rams’ first Super Bowl win since 1999 and his first-ever victory in Los Angeles. But that was four months ago and it’s been 78 days since the NFL Free Agency opened, yet Beckham is still without a deal.

“I think [Odell Beckham Jr] Staying with the rams is still a possibility. They loved everything they saw of him last year and he loved them too, “Rapoport Tell Pat McAfee Show.
This isn’t really anything new. Odell and the Rams have all been hooked on the outside, and the lack of movement with the other teams swooping in to steal him away seems to suggest that it’s only a matter of time before a deal is sealed that makes him return to LA.
So the question everyone is asking is what’s the barrier?
As Rapoport says, it’s not about money or other contracts getting in the way — specifically a new deal for Aaron Donald. Instead, it was OBJ’s anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in the Super Bowl that slowed down the schedule as well as seemingly eliminated the sense of urgency to get something done.
Another thing Rapoport mentions, which explains why teams like the Packers, Bears or Chiefs hold off to sign Beckham in favor of other free agent options, is the timing of the ACL injury. What happened in the Super Bowl – the absolute deepest in the NFL schedule that could happen – means he won’t be playing a full season in 2022.
“It’s an interesting case because he probably won’t play the first several games, it could be half the season. The timing of the injury was really bad for a player who has been playing as well as he probably is since his first year or two with the Giants.”
“It’s not like Odell will get $15 million in the first year because he probably won’t play the first part [of the season]. “
That doesn’t take teams across the league out of the competition for OBJ once he’s healthy enough to turn the deal into a reality. Aaron Rodgers would likely love to be in Green Bay, and the Packers were said to have been close to getting him from the Browns last season before the Rams overtook them.
