John Smoltz Jenxis Cubs started throwing in the worst way

John Smoltz got some bad praise for the smaller Chicago Cubs pitcher.

The Chicago Cubs didn’t enjoy their trip to face the New York Yankees this weekend. Saturday was a slow one-sided competition with six runs on their turf by the Yankees including two from AL MVP number one contestant Aaron Judge.

As impressive as his two-stroke night was, it was the bottom of Giancarlo Stanton’s fourth racket shot that got everyone to grab the closest shield they could find. We might as well thank John Smoltz Jenks for that, too.

Cubs champion Matt Swarmer entered the bottom of the fourth inning only 1-0 late before the home run festival started. Just as Smoltz was praising him on the broadcast, Stanton went deep and made a little history when he did.

Once Smoltz finished talking about how much he liked Swarmer, Stanton put every muscle in his body into a swing that set a new Statcast record. The laser was beyond doubt. Even John Sterling would not have missed this call.

The missile launched from the Stanton racket was clocked at 119.8 mph. If we use files Back to the future Logic, it’s been a flux capacitor far from sending a baseball game thirty years in the past. The extra speed would have definitely made up for any gigawatt loss.

Doc Brown may not have needed to do shady business. All he needed was Stanton and some ill-timed praise from Smoltz to make his time travel history.

As if this home run wasn’t bad enough, the next hitter, Gleyber Torres, also went into the yard. After that, Swarmer allowed three more.

Cubs are not strangers to jinx and curses. For more than 100 years, they blamed the lack of heroism on billy goats who were not allowed into the pub. On this Saturday night, they might be able to point the finger at Smoltz.

If anyone can benefit from this, it might be Nick Castellanos. Any apology from Smoltz to Cubs fans is sure to be dispersed by car a long way from Castellanos. However, Smoltz has no need to apologize. In the interest of shooters, he needs to be extra careful before giving them praise.
