The Golden Knights have hired former Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy

The Vegas Golden Knights are said to hire Bruce Cassidy as their next coach, days after he was sacked by the Boston Bruins.

Once the regular season ended, there were several major coaching jobs available. But on June 6, there was a late candidate to enter the main coaching circuit, as Bruce Cassidy was fired by the Boston Bruins after six seasons with the organization. It didn’t take long to find a new job in the NHL.

according to NHL Network Kevin Weeks, Cassidy has agreed to an agreement with the Vegas Golden Knights to be their next coach. The team announced the decision shortly thereafter.

The Golden Knights have appointed Bruce Cassidy as their next head coach, days after he was fired by the Bruins

Cassidy joined the Bruins in 2016 as an assistant coach under Claude Julien. After the team fired Julian, Cassidy was promoted to interim head coach. Then he was promoted to a full-time coach.

In his six seasons with the Bruins, the team reached the playoffs each year, including reaching the Stanley Cup Final in 2019. Overall, Cassidy held a 245-108-46 record in the regular season and a 36-37 record in the playoffs.

Boston was eliminated in the first round by the Carolina Hurricanes in seven games. Weeks after the loss, the organization decided to separate from Cassidy.

The Golden Knights needed a new coach after what turned out to be a disastrous season for them. They dealt with several injuries and missed the playoffs with a 43-31-8 number. As a result, the team fired Pete Debor.

Having missed the playoffs for the first time in their short history, the Golden Knights did not hesitate to bring in Cassidy as their new head coach. Those teams that were in need of a head coach who were interested in the former Bruins coach off the bench will now have to pivot.
