Close submissions help lead Alex Martinez to victory over Clay Collard in the PFL 4 main event, snatching Martinez off a spot in the post-season and ending Collard’s 2022 PFL campaign.
Alex Martinez will once again have a chance to become the PFL Lightweight Champion, thanks to his surprising, but controversial, decision win over Clay Collard in PFL 4.
As a result of his win, Martinez is guaranteed a place in the light portion of the 2022 NFL Playoffs, while Collard’s season is over.
Martinez’s seed in the post-season will be decided upon after facing Anthony Pettis and Stevie Ray in the Pro League 5 next week.

Collard looked off to a hot start with strong combos, but Martinez had him eat a hard punch to keep him at bay. Collard chased Martinez’s body with several boxing sets, and it seemed like he got to Martinez. Collard eliminated Martinez twice in the opening round, although Martinez finished the round on top.
Collard continued to work on the body in the second round, although Martinez came after Collard and pressured him for his wrestling. Collard dropped Martinez with a straight line in the round, and while Martinez was scrambling more than once, Collard followed him around. Collard attempted to lock a rod, but Martinez escaped and was trapped in a dominant position. Martinez managed to lock Collard in a naked choke from behind and nearly got him to surrender, but Collard managed to escape.
Collard looked to get back on track on the final tire, but found himself in trouble again thanks to a triangle lever throttle and a Martinez cabin. It was a very successful run for Martinez thanks to his wrestling superiority.
All three judges scored the match 29-28, awarding two of the bout to Martinez for giving him the nod of split decision.
