Golden State Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson saves Michael Jordan and the Charlotte Hornets talk a lot about their basketball organization.
Days after the Golden State Warriors won the 2022 NBA Finals, assistant coach Kenny Atkinson decided to leave Michael Jordan and Charlotte Hornets at the altar in an awkward fashion.
It would have been Atkinson’s second stab at his tenure as the NBA coach, having previously led the Brooklyn Nets. He was offered a Hornets job, but decided to back out at the last minute, believing that staying in San Francisco was a better long-term solution for him. Atkinson will lead the NBA team again one day soon, but for now, he’s probably made an incredibly wise decision here.
Charlotte should take her place James Borregowho was unable to exit the tournament twice.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski continued his reporting by saying that the other finalists for the position are Mike D’Antoni and Terry Stotts. Good luck with that, Charlotte…

While at least two teams have said no to Jordan before, only one team can justify their claims since 1984. Hakim Olaywan may have been the “dream” of the Houston Rockets, but the Portland Trail Blazers have continued their way to picking one injury-prone college star after another for The route of taking Sam Bowie over The GOAT. Let’s hope Jordan Atkinson doesn’t curse over this…
At this time, the only other vacancy in the union is the one that has ended in Salt Lake. Quinn Snyder decided he had enough Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell Not compatible with two Utah Jazz players. Snyder may be a candidate to come to Charlotte, but he may decide to spend a year away from the NBA to regroup and get the best job available in the next off-season tournament.
It’s worth noting that both of Mike Budenholzer’s students could play in the Atlanta Hawks’ opening if the Nate Macmillan era was over. It would be quite the turn of events if Atkinson said no to Jordan, only to agree to return to Atlanta and coach a rival team going forward. Of course, Macmillan led Atlanta to the Eastern Conference Finals just two years ago.
For now, Hornets fans should prepare for guys like D’Antoni and Stotts to make decisions in Charlotte.
