MMA Twitter was deeply divided, if not so furious, at Alex Martinez who got the nod over Clay Collard at PFL 4
In what would become a highly controversial decision – and this isn’t the first time such a thing has been said about a PFL fight – Alex Martinez made a dent on Clay Collard in the main event of PFL 4.
As a result of the win, Martinez moves to the PFL after the start of the season and eliminates Collard.
Collard had a strong start to the fight, working on Martinez with several boxing combos that targeted Martinez’s body, visibly damaging him. Collard added a few takedowns to the Tour, though Martinez finished the Tour on the front.
That would be a harbinger of what was to come. Although Collard got off to a hot start and defeated Martinez in the second round, Martinez’s scramble led to two surrender attempts, including a naked choke in the back that looked deep and worrisome but Collard managed to escape.
Martinez’s grappling and capitulation skills helped lead him to more success in the final frame, although Collard was still firing more damaging shots.
