Remember when the guards traded Yo Darvish with the Dodgers? They have officially given up on Willie Calhoun, taking on the Giants. Calhoun was the main piece of the Dervish trade.
Calhoun can’t really go to Texas, so a change of scenery is needed. For a former Dodgers prospect turned Rangers Flop, San Francisco is the exact type of team he needed to join — an organization known for career transformation.
Calhoun already accepted Referral to Triple-A With the Rangers, so he doesn’t have 40 men in San Francisco. This is actually perfect for Gabe Kapler and Co. , considering it has no place on the Giants list.
Instead, Calhoun will report to Sacramento, and play Triple-A ball in hopes of changing his career. It’s something the Giants Organization does well.

The other end of this trade, which sends Stephen Duggar to Texas, is a kind of odd proportionality from the outside looking in. He’s a left-handed hitter on a team that includes a lot of those. Outside of the faction/seat location, there isn’t much room for him in Arlington.
San Francisco and Farhan Zaidi take the most interesting route with Calhoun. Zaidi is a former Dodgers executive, where Calhoun was a potential team. He’s a player Zaidi knows.
We’ll see if San Francisco can revive some of those talents that made Calhoun a major player in the Yo Darvish trade in the first place.
