The Red Sox are a contender for the Judge only because of the market they play in, their constant attempts to win, and how well they stole one of the most valuable possessions in the club’s recent history. It’s the same reason the New York Mets are a potential destination, except that they have an owner who has proven that he will pay any price possible to improve the team.
Boston could definitely use an upgrade in their stadium. However, they have shown a lack of interest in retaining many of their stars in recent years. They traded Mookie Betts instead of paying him. When they dive into free agency, they tend to go with the second tier of the best players available. The signature of Trevor’s story, for example, may have been made just to do something remarkable all winter long.
It is not inconceivable that he would give way to almost any team. His ability to play on the right field and even handle regular starts in the center of the field makes him a viable option just about anywhere. Add to the fact that the National League now has a DH turn to move the less defensive players around – how many teams are already out of the realm of possibilities? Only clubs that regularly appear unwilling to pay agents big money should be eliminated. Even some of them may always face a change of financial heart or a change of ownership.
