Trey Smith doesn’t blame Terek Hill for leaving the Kansas City Chiefs

Tyreek Hill’s former fellow Kansas City Chiefs, Trey Smith, doesn’t blame him for forcing him to trade with the Miami Dolphins.

Hill has been outspoken since the trade, even comparing new quarterback Toa Tagovailoa to signals leader Patrick Mahomes. This, of course, Hill is trying to instill confidence in the new QB more than anything else.

Soon after his trade to Miami, Hill signed a contract extension that Kansas City General Manager Brett Fitch wasn’t willing to grant, according to reports. The deal was valued at $120 million over four years and included $53.4 million guaranteed upon signing. You’ll pay Hill until he’s 32.

None of his fellow Chiefs have spoken out against Hill. They definitely understand from the player’s perspective. You can add Smith to that list, because he came out to support Tyreek.

Trey Smith: ‘Don’t Blame’ Terrick Hill For Leaving The Chiefs

“Yes, coaches will do what they think is best for the organization and the team. And I can’t blame Tyreek,” Smith said on a J-Mart radio show and Ramon via Kansas City Star. “I would never blame anyone for getting paid, but he has to do what is best for him. I am really excited to see what he does in Miami, I wish him well.”

That doesn’t mean Smith’s future is in doubt, or that the Kansas City players know more behind the scenes. It is just an understandable concept that when players have the opportunity to maximize their value, they need to do everything in their power to secure a contract with guaranteed money.

Football is a contact sport of course, and it’s very violent. Any player – even in the skill center – can get injured at any moment. This is why Hill emphasized the guaranteed money, and why he and his agent Drew Rosenhouse made a deal in Miami.

They gave Tyreek money-assured, and a chance to earn more. It wasn’t Kansas City.

Sometimes it’s really about Benjamin.
