Joey Chestnut, injured and all, won Nathan’s Hot Dog 2022, winning the mustard belt for the 15th time in his career.
Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating competition takes place every 4th of July. In recent years, the event has been dominated by Joey Chestnut, who has won 14 mustard championship belts in the past 15 years. This year was a bit more challenging, considering Chestnut was on crutches due to a ruptured tendon in his leg.
As it turns out, it was another day at Chestnut’s office, where he won the 2022 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating competition by eating 63 hot dogs. He now has 15 championships in this event, more than Rafael Nadal who has won French Open titles (14).

Not only did Chestnut have to deal with injury during competition, but not when a protester wearing a Darth Vader mask stood in front of him holding a banner. Chestnut saw this, grabbed the protester by the neck and threw him back.
Chestnuts have now consumed 1,152 hot dogs since their 2005 debut at Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Competition, According to ESPN statistics and information.
The last time Chestnut lost a Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating contest was in 2015, when Matt Stoney defeated him. Chestnuts ate 60 hot dogs, while Stoney ate 62.
Jeffrey Esper finished second in the 2022 event, who ate 47.5 hot dogs.
Chestnut’s legacy grows even further after he won his 15th belt in the Mustard Championships.
