The Panthers make their move as the Seahawks stop

The Seattle Seahawks may have missed an opportunity to acquire Browns QB Baker Mayfield, so the Panthers are making a move.

The Seahawks have always been considered the favorite for Mayfield, but that may not be the case. The Carolina Panthers – who also need a quarterback – have recently increased their interest.

On this week’s Pat McAfee Show, Ian Rapoport He stated that the Seahawks were never keen on Baker, and instead relinquished any interest in favor of the Geno Smith vs Drew Lock competition. While neither of these options sound particularly good, this is Pete Carroll’s preference.

Instead, it’s Carolina who could pull the trigger for Mayfield when all this is said and done:

“You know, the Carolina Panthers were obviously the most aggressive. I know most people thought the deal was going to happen by the end of the little camp. It didn’t. So we’ll see, as we get closer to camp, if things get back to normal. He spoke before training camp at some point.”

Baker Mayfield rumors: As training camp approaches, Panthers maintain interest

While the Seahawks were by far the most reported destination, Rapoport continued to sway any potential interest for Carolina, instead.

“It’s not right. It happens a few times a year where you get like an internet rumor that kind of takes a life of its own. And believe me, I always check in. And I’ve never heard anything in support of the Seahawks’ Baker family. And like, I don’t know what It’s going to happen at the end of all of this. Like, this guy might announce that he’s trolling us. It sounds crazy to me, but they never really cared about Becker. What they wanted was a Drew Locke fight against Jenno Smith.”

Baker will have to wait longer for Cleveland and Carolina to align the salary intake, but he still feels he won’t be a member of the Browns’ roster as the regular season begins.
