NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has announced how he feels about Kevin Durant’s trade request of the Brooklyn Nets.
Just before his free agency period began, Kevin Durant sent shock waves throughout the NBA after requesting a deal from the Brooklyn Nets. The decision comes as he enters the first season of a four-year, $194.2 million contract extension with Brooklyn.
When asked about the topic in the NBA Summer League, Silver said the league “doesn’t like seeing players asking for deals.”
“Look, this must be a two-way street,” Silver said, free CBS Sports. Teams provide massive security and guarantees to players, and the expectation is, in return, that they honor the bottom line of the deal. I am realistic that there are always conversations going on behind closed doors between players, their representatives and teams. But we don’t like to see players asking for deals, and we don’t like to see them play out the way they are.

Silver added that the league intends to discuss this issue during negotiations of the upcoming collective bargaining agreement with the players’ union.
“It’s one of those issues where we’re moving into this collective bargaining cycle, which we’ve just started, that we intend to discuss with our players’ union and see if there are remedies for this,” Silver said. CBS Sports. “Again, like I said, it’s never going to be like that when players aren’t happy in certain situations, but we don’t want to see it as it is now.”
The timing of Durant’s trade request came three years after the day he agreed to sign with the Nets in the summer of 2019. Last year, Durant agreed and signed a four-year contract extension to keep him in the team until completion. From the 2025-26 season.
Teams like the Phoenix Suns and the Miami Heat were reportedly at the top of Durant’s list of favorite destinations. Another team that was associated with Durant was the Toronto Raptors. However, as of this writing, no deal appears imminent. The Nets are said to have a high asking price to willingly part with one of the best players in the game.
Whatever happens, Silver isn’t entirely pleased with Durant’s trade order.
