Packers fans express their frustration with the unenthusiastic bootcamp preview, believing that Green Bay’s new wide receivers wouldn’t hold back the team.
Mike Tannier, Senior Analyst for Football Outsiders, released a preview of the NFC North training camp today, and his massive analysis of the state of the Green Bay Packers’ wide receiver has left fans frustrated.
Tanner immediately begins his analysis of the Packers by hitting the ball in the middle Aaron Rodgers’Patience / Social Skills / Human Fitness“For not publicly giving any praise regarding the team’s new receiver corps.
“Unless someone immediately emerges as the next Davante Adams, Packers fans can look forward to a long summer full of vacant looks and passive-aggressive disregard,” Tagnier wrote in his review. “Business as usual, in other words, except that Rodgers would be disgruntled with his young teammates rather than an addition to the organization.”

Whether Rodgers talks about it at all in the off-season is irrelevant, and wouldn’t even be irregular by his standards. After all, it took Rodgers a while to say something about Davante Adams’ departure, and both Rodgers and Adams made it very clear that the respect and admiration were still mutual. If Rodgers didn’t praise one of his greatest receivers upon his departure, it’s no surprise that he’s been illiterate on recent acquisitions.
The only obvious fact when discussing Packers packages is that they are a new group. Davante Adams is gone, and whether or not that will affect Rodgers’ success will remain a mystery until the season begins. To address the gap Adams left in his wake, the Packers drafted Christian Watson with the 34th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Tanner described Watson as “a man of traits who didn’t pass many degrees in college, but everyone seemed sure he would anyway.”
It appears that Tannier’s entire look at the NFC North was done somewhat in jest. It is widely recognized that 2022 will be a downward year for the division, with the Detroit Lions in the midst of a permanent rebuilding, the Chicago Bears under entirely new management, the Minnesota Vikings deploying a new offensive plan, and the Packers moving on from the Adams’ biggest scoring threat. However, to suggest that Packers fans have anything to legally worry about heading into the season is an exaggeration.
Rodgers is still far from the best midfielder in the division, and although they spent another draft focusing almost entirely on investing in defense, the Packers are still hugely favored to win the score.
No matter who gets posted for passes for the next 17 games in 2022, Aaron Rodgers will make it work. He has, after all, won the Player of the Year award in a back-to-back league. No matter what he says or ignores what he says about wide receivers before his boot camp it doesn’t change that.
