Caleb Williams summons reporter for Oklahoma comment

USC soccer QB Caleb Williams set the record straight after a reporter and others misrepresented statements made by his father about leaving Oklahoma.

The nature of Caleb Williams’ departure from Oklahoma to the University of Southern California is still a topic of debate online months after it all went downhill.

On Sunday, the quarterback himself decided to make things clearer after Mike Farrell called the idea that Williams was allegedly being kept away from the OU by Sooners fans “beyond absurd.”

reaction to this? Mine is – this is so ridiculous. The child is gone. And getting into the gate and not expecting the OU to get another QB is laughable,” Farrell tweeted.

Williams didn’t let Farrell’s tweet sit there without comment.

“Want to get this done? The fans and my old teammates are the reason I was about to stay!” Williams tweeted Farrell, correcting “done” to “down” in another tweet.

Chart Farrell posted his initial tweet along with a graphic that read, “Dad Caleb Williams says OU fans kicked his son away.”

This idea seems to come from Los Angeles Times profile on Williamsbut it’s also a big mistake reading the quotes.

In the article, Carl Williams said, “We didn’t know what we were going to do. And frankly, when we went to the gate, Oklahoma was at the top of the list. But they did some things that weren’t in his best interest.”

Caleb backed that up by tweeting that he almost stayed in Norman because of the fans and his teammates. Some would choose not to believe it, but it’s not crazy to believe that a 19-year-old wasn’t sure what he was going to do after a few weeks of his life because he knew he was thrown into such uncertainty.

The breakup in all of this appears to have been due to the new Oklahoma team trying to pressure Caleb to make a quick decision to stay rather than considering his options. UCF’s Dillon quickly picked up Gabriel the same day the quarterback entered the gate. Basically, they moved.

Karl lamented the way “fans suddenly turned to his son” along with “all the scathing criticism about Caleb taking advantage of his choice to move”.

In the profile, everyone around Caleb confirmed that money wasn’t the factor in his transfer.

“From Auburn to Wisconsin to here to Oklahoma, it didn’t matter to me. I knew where I was going, I was going to get nothing,” Caleb said.

From the start, the Williams camp insisted that his career development was the driving force behind his move. The process of deciding where he could be best prepared for the success of the NFL was important to the family. USC turns out to be the answer but why is it so hard to believe that a player and his family would seriously consider all of their options before making a life-changing decision?
