Freddy Freeman picks rival Braves to win HR Derby, but Charlie stays loyal (VIDEO)

Los Angeles Dodgers captain Freddy Freeman revealed who he and his son Charlie won the 2022 Home Run Derby.

While the MLB All-Star Game is an event baseball fans look forward to, the previous night was arguably the most exciting because of the Home Run Derby. New York Mets first team captain Pete Alonso is looking to defend his title once again, but he has seven tough opponents to contend with. This has raised questions in the baseball media – who will win the 2022 event?

Los Angeles Dodgers captain Freddy Freeman was asked who he thought would win the Home Run Derby when he met the media on the day of the event. Freeman said it’s tough to face Alonso. But Freeman revealed that his son Charlie is choosing Atlanta Braves’ Ronald Acuña Jr.

The video below comes from The Score.

Freddy Freeman picks Pete Alonso to win the home derby, but Charlie Freeman picks Ronald Acuna Jr.

It’s ironic that Freeman is split between Alonso and Acuña, as these two superstars are set to compete in the first round of the derby. Talk about the thrill.

Whoever wins between Alonso and Acuna will have to face the winner of the Cory Seeger-Julio Rodriguez match. The winner of the semi-final match will advance to the finals to face Kyle Schwarber, Juan Soto, Jose Ramirez or Albert Pujols.

Alonso has a chance to make history, as he could become the second player to ever win the derby at the Home Run three times. The only player to do so was Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. But Griffey has never won the derby for three years in a row. Alonso has the opportunity to do so.

The Mets star has won the two previous derbies, which were in 2019 and 2021. The 2020 All-Star Game has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is Acuña’s second appearance at the Home Run Derby. He participated in 2019 and reached the second round. He was eliminated, you guessed it, by Alonso, who defeated the Braves star 20 at home to 19.
