Freddy Freeman actually played a Brian Snitker who named Clayton Kershaw the primary bowler for the National League team in the 2022 MLB All-Star Game.
While the starting lineups and U.S. and national reserve rosters were revealed long before the MLB All-Star Game on July 19, it was unknown who would take the hill for both teams in the first half. The day before, it was revealed by Atlanta Braves and NL All-Star Team Manager Brian Snicker that Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw is starting the team. But how did Kershaw discover this?
As it turns out, Snitker called his former star with the Braves and current Dodgers first base player Freddie Freeman. When answering the phone, Snitker asked to speak with Kershaw. Then Freeman sent the phone to him in the coach’s room.
Brian Snicker called Freddy Freeman to tell Clayton Kershaw that he was the start of the NL All-Star Team.
Freeman confirmed that his former manager called him and that he handed the phone to Kershaw. He also talked about how special it was to watch Kershaw start the All-Star game on his home court. You can hear Freeman’s comments in the tweet below, courtesy of Nikki Kay of Spectrum Sportsnet.
Kershaw had never had the chance to start the All-Star Game in his previous eight matches. But now, he has the opportunity to do it on the court he has called for throughout his 14-year career.
He signed a one-year, $17 million contract to return to the Dodgers for the 2022 season, but then became a free agent. It will remain to be seen what he decides on his future.
This season, Kershaw has scored 2.13 ERA, 0.907 WHIP, 75 strikes and 12 walks during 71.2 runs (12 starts).
When you talk about Kershaw receiving his first All-Star game, never forget that Snitker had to call Freeman to get in touch with him to give him the news.
