The Chicago Cubs surprised some by taking over Oklahoma’s Cade Horton with the No. 7 MLB Draft pick but the experts loved the pick.
Cade Horton’s starring role in the College World Series earned him a higher-than-expected pick at the 2022 MLB Draft.
The Cubs used Option 7 to add the right-handed bowler who dominated Oklahoma earlier this year.
Since it was only ranked 24th on the list of the 250 Best Projects for MLB Prospects, there might be a temptation to name this access. Draft experts will not agree.
Experts love picking Cubs Cade Horton in the MLB Draft
MLB Pipeline’s Jim Callis has earned great praise for Horton In MLB.com’s Draft Tracker:
“There has been a lot of belated fanfare that Horton could sneak into the top 10 after his stellar run in the post-season and the Cubs made that move here in the seventh. While he missed the entire 2021 season after Tommy John’s surgery and didn’t catch fire until his last five starts this The year showed enough that in my opinion it was the best college pitcher available.He’s a quality athlete with a fast ball of 98mph and a passer touching 90.A two-way player in Oklahoma, he can really kick off now that he’s healthy and just going to focus on throwing.”
The Twitter reaction draft came to similar conclusions about Horton.
Obviously, there are some risks with Horton given Tommy John’s recent surgery and the fact that he didn’t start making waves until late in the college baseball season.
Overall in 2022, it was 5-2 with a 4.86 ERA. He also played third base, shortstop and DH.
His work at Postseason really sets him apart. He was 3-0 in five starts with 2.61 ERAs and 49 strikes.
The bowler will need to demonstrate the franchise of his pick as he moves through the organization toward a major league debut.
