Detroit Pistons rookie Jaden Ivey is already revitalizing the city by praising Kid Cunningham and the “Detroit to the core” team.

Pistons rookie Jaden Ivey may have used this phrase to describe his teammates, but it’s a phrase that also describes Ivey himself. One of the biggest events in the 2022 NBA draft was how fateful the Pistons’ choice of Ivy looked. Jaden Ivey continues an impressive legacy of professional athletes in Detroit, after his mother, former Detroit Shock player Niele Ivey. Jaden’s grandfather, James Hunter, played for the Detroit Lions.
Loving Detroit is actually in Jaden’s DNA, joining the Pistons at an exciting juncture in the franchise’s history. Ivey is set to praise Cade Cunningham next season, and the two have already aged as they prepare to “return Detroit to the win.”
“Man, I love this guy,” Ivy told FanSided’s Mark Carman when asked about Cunningham. “Honestly, an amazing guy. He was so welcoming when I got there, he was ready to go. That’s the most important thing, we talked about, we’re ready to get to him and get Detroit back to the win, and that’s the biggest thing.”
When asked about the game plan with Cunningham and whether or not Ivy would be a running point, Ivy told Karman that the point position has been pretty smooth so far.
“Honestly I don’t know. I mean, we’ve trained a lot, sometimes I feel like I have the ball in my hand, and sometimes he does. However, I feel like we compliment each other really well. I can bring the ball sometimes, he can bring the ball sometimes. Honestly, I feel like we Just a great duo, and we’re going to do whatever we need to do to help the team win, for sure.”

Karman noted that Ivey’s move to Detroit not only energized his fan base but excited the rest of the NBA, noting that this is the most the Pistons have been discussing in over a decade.
“There’s definitely a lot to talk about. We have some great players, some special talents, some people that I feel are in Detroit to the core. Everyone. Likes Detroit is on our team. I feel like when you have guys who want to learn and want to be great, it’s not only good for us, but [it’s going to do] for the Detroit Well.
Jaden’s comments come at a lucky time, as there was recently a concern about an ankle injury when Ivy fell while playing in the Summer League. Fortunately, Jaden is in good health, recovering after Amazing performance by 20 points against the Portland Trail Blazers on July 8.
It’s an exciting time to be a Pistons fan and see the locker room have so much talent: there’s Isaiah Stewart, Kid Cunningham, and now Jaden Ivey, to name a few. Perhaps Ivy could be the piece that brings Detroit its fourth NBA championship in the coming years.
