Big Dan Vogelbach is back on the move again, this time being tackled from the Pittsburgh Pirates to the New York Mets in exchange for a pitcher of relief.
Baseball’s most luxurious and handsome man once again found himself on the move through the trade as the New York Mets acquired 1B/DH Daniel Vogelbach of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
According to John Heyman, Colin Holdman It’s the return from New York to Pittsburgh as a one-on-one deal with pieces moving from the major league roster to the major league roster.
While this move will undoubtedly pale in comparison to some of the biggest in the near future as we approach this year’s trade deadline, it’s still exciting because it’s one of the first real deals we’ve seen this season.
The first move usually comes early in the year (see Rowdy Tellez and Willy Adames traded with Milwaukee last year), but the move comes two weeks after the deadline.

At 29-year-old Vogelbach, the Mets were set to back a specific hitting spot who was by far the weakest link in the all-day lineup. They will become the latest team to try to bring out the best in Big Dan after emerging as the best team in the Cubs and Mariners systems.
According to Joel Sherman subordinate New York Post, the Mets have only had six home runs (the third lowest in the majors) and .208/.288/.317 slashes from the set hit point this season. While Vogelbach wasn’t necessarily setting the world on fire on the board this year, it would represent an immediate upgrade in the power department.
Sherman goes on to point out that the Mets have a 0.692 right-hand throw OPS of the year. Vogelbach alone has a .896 OPS against the right and has an insane amount of pop in his left swing.
With 75 games in the season, “Vogey” has 12 home runs and 34 RBI runs, having made 40 walks and netted 67 times in more than 270 games. His OPS+ of 117 would be his career’s single-season high if the season ended today. His strong start to the year has largely flown under the radar since he’s played for the Pirates who aren’t necessarily the most attractive team in the media.
Oh, and he also made the first three times of his career earlier this season which is beautiful.
At Holderman, the Pirates hit a 26-year-old right-back bowler who made his league debut earlier this season and has looked very strong thus far. After initially playing the role of bowler in the first seasons of his professional career, he successfully exited exclusively from the First Division for the Mets and achieved impressive results.
This year, Holdman has 15 games under his belt to align with a perfect 4-0 record, 2.04 ERA and 18 strikes in 17.2 innings. He also has yet to concede a single home game in the first 67 strikes he has faced in the Major League.
The odds are very high that Holderman immediately gets into the Pirates Bullpen which has seen a poor performance of a number of players this year.
