Tiger Woods missed the cut at The Open and fans were left wondering when he’ll play again. Showing his enclosure, Joe LaCava, some thoughts on his schedule.
Sir Tiger Woods on the 18th hole in St Andrews was an emotional moment for everyone in the golf world to feel. Part of that was history happening before our eyes but also the uncertain future of the greatest golfer in history.
Although he missed the Open Championship, this year Woods’ return to play in three major tournaments – cutting two of them – has been impressive. However, there were real questions about what awaits us at The Cat in 2023 and beyond. On Thursday, though, we got some ideas from a trusted source: his canister, Joe LaCava.
LaCava said he hopes he and Tiger will train this fall with plans to not only play the Hero World Challenge (an event hosting Woods) and the PNC Championship with Charlie Woods, but he’d also like to have 3-4 matches under his belt. Before heading to the master’s.
Tiger Woods: Caddy Joe LaCava reveals schedule plans for The Masters
In all honesty, this supports what was shown in The Open. At least by eye test, it was probably the most correct that Woods looked at in any of the three majors he’s played – the problem was that he looked like a player he didn’t play in many competitive rounds this year. The rust was obvious and showed up in his play.
With that said, Woods’ plan to play 3-4 times before going to Augusta should be exciting for the fans. Even if he was healthy, Tiger wouldn’t be able to play the full PGA Tour schedule anymore in his mid-40s. He has crossed that point in his illustrious career. However, it’s a good sign that he’s healthy that he plans to take the tournament so competitively, and of course play The Masters again.
