The Pittsburgh Steelers will need to do some roster adjustments before the first week arrives.
It’ll be a new era for Pittsburgh Steelers football once toe meets leather in early September.
For the first time since 2003, Ben Roethlisberger will no longer be part of this team. He decided to retire after last season, which paved the way for Pittsburgh to sign Mitch Trubesky on free agency, as well as take on former Pete star Kenny Pickett on the 2022 NFL draft. Although the defense should be great, there are plenty of questions about Steelers attack. Maybe the camp reveals some things?
There are three players currently on the Steelers roster who will likely not be attending in September.

Does Mason Rudolph deserve her third trainee role to keep for another season?
2022 will be the fourth season of the NFL outside of Oklahoma State to select former Mason Rudolph in the third round. Once he was recruited to be the heir apparent to Big Ben, things didn’t work out for him. He became famous for splitting time with Devlin “Duck” Hodges in 2019 and after Myles Garrett hit him on the head with his own helmet. With Pickett and Trubisky in a carry-on, it might be time to leave.
Trubisky is almost certain to be the starter of the Steelers’ first week, while Pickett will do his best to overtake him in the depth chart. Although Rudolph is still under contract for another seasonIt might be time to cut the bait and give him another chance to see if he can play somewhere else. If Chris Oldcon shows any promise during training camp or in pre-season, it’s pretty easy.
In truth, Rudolph might just be a mid-tier backup in the NFL. There is value to having a player like him, but it doesn’t serve the Steelers to have a player at this point in their competitive life cycle. With Roethlisberger out of the picture, they need a gap stop (Trubisky), a new hope of faith (Pickett) and a player to put on the coaching staff (Oladokun). Rudolph is none of those things.
Rudolph’s release would only be a little over $1 million US dollars for the Steelers franchise.
