The St. Louis Cardinals are a favorite to land Juan Soto — at least in terms of pre-trade deadline talks. But with whom are they competing?
St. Louis has a unique combination of high-level prospects and MLB-ready talent making them an attractive fit for a player like Soto. Washington They will be able to shorten their rebuilding, rather than taking pure potential capital – which can sometimes feel like it’s diving into the unknown.
The likes of Nolan Gorman, Matthew Liberatore, Jordan Walker and more will be part of any business conversation with Juan Soto. It is not known at this time exactly what the Cardinals gave the 23-year-old or who gave him.
Obviously, that was enough to make the ball roll.
Cardinals: The Biggest Threats to Juan Soto’s Trade
The biggest threats to any Juan Soto trade are actually two sleepers – the San Diego Padres and the Seattle Mariners.
Padres will have to trade CJ Abrams and more, but AJ Preller is a trade deadline gunslinger and can very close a deal at any time. San Diego has two other prospects in the MLB Pipeline’s top 100 players, both of whom could be involved in a deal as well.
Meanwhile, Seattle is kind of a scratch, but check many of the same squares as the cards. The Mariners are ready to win now, and adding Soto will put them over the top in the Wild Card and moving on.
While Julio Rodriguez is banned, the likes of Noelvi Marte, Harry Ford and Edwin Arroyo, all of whom are 20 or younger, are ranked in the top 100 odds for every MLB pipeline. Mart is 19th in baseball and he is only 20 years old.
Youngsters of these three potentials make them particularly promising in terms of Soto’s potential return.
