The New York Yankees have been the subject of MLB rumors linking them to Luis Castillo but a reluctance to trade a single player cost them that opportunity.
Luis Castillo was a nice addition to the New York Yankees. There were a lot of MLB rumors related to New York until he was finally traded by the Cincinnati Reds to the Seattle Mariners.
Where did all this go wrong for a team that always seems to get what it wants?
The asking price for Castillo was high and the Yankees definitely had the cash. But maybe they weren’t too interested in depleting their savings account to get that particular player. Instead, they would have to look elsewhere because apparently they weren’t willing to go as far as the sailors were doing. Perhaps there is a commercial version of the Castillo Store available for them.
MLB Rumors: Why Luis Castillo isn’t promoting the Yankees
Castillo was a famous man. According to Mark Finsand, dozens of teams have submitted their offers to him. Unfortunately, the Yankees were only close to what they were willing to send to Cincinnati.
It was no secret how much the Yankees preferred to stick with top prospect Anthony Volpi. It may be their reluctance to give it up Signed the Death Note to get Castillo. We almost can’t blame them. They were already entrenched in his fat short-stop in the future.
According to Joel Sherman, the Reds preferred the trade package the Mariners were offering as opposed to the Yankees’ trade focused on Oswald Peraza.
Yankees fans won’t be surprised by these post-MLB rumors that show exactly why Castillo doesn’t cut and shave his hair daily and call the Bronx house. With Isaiah Kiner-Falefa seen as the stopgap in a short-stop position, we likely won’t see the team change their plan going forward with Volpe.
What might make things difficult for New Yorkers is finding a different pitcher available that won’t cost them Volpi. Jose Quintana is one direction they can go. Despite this, Frankie Montas will likely need a package similar to what the Mariners ceded to Castillo.
The trade deadline is fast approaching and the Yankees must continue to push hard to add more rotation. Expect more MLB gun-related rumors. Prepare for some disappointment, too.
