The Romeo Doubs might not be the best wide receiver for beginners, but Aaron Rodgers actually noticed him at boot camp.
The biggest question in the 2022 season for the Green Bay Packers was what the team plans to do on a large scale after trading away from Davante Adams while also losing to Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Equanimeous St. Brown at Free Agency.
Most of the characters Allen Lazard is set to play a more significant role in the Green Bay attack than in years past, while the casting of Christian Watson as the second-round pick in this year’s draft, Christian Watson, will have high expectations.
However, he’s another rookie – particularly with Watson starting a training camp on the PUP roster – and he’s already catching the eye of quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Packers news: Romeo Dobbs gets praise from Aaron Rodgers
On Saturday while speaking with the NFL Network, Rodgers paid tribute to rookie fourth-rounder Romeo Dobbs.
“Romeo Dobbs had a really great start in camp,” Rodgers said. “Attracted a lot of interest based on some of the plays he gave. Such an approach, a very simple kid, a very humble kid… We all feel good about Romeo and his beginning.”
Doubs was considered by many analysts after the draft as one of the top rising value picks for the category, which the Packers desperately need. He collected over 2,100 yards and 20 touchdowns over his last two seasons in Nevada in college while showing strong, all-round ability as a player.
Of course, Rodgers talking to a rookie in the first few days of camp doesn’t mean that much. At the same time, though, this is a midfielder who has largely been known for not making junior receivers a priority, so his praise may have some ramifications on the pitch.
What is certain is that the Packers need Doubs to be a factor if Rodgers wants to come back as NFL MVP and if Green Bay wants to have an offense to compete for the Super Bowl.
