The Seattle Mariners’ Julio Rodriguez left the Houston Astros’ game after taking a ball on his wrist.
Things seemed to be looking up for the Seattle Mariners. Late Friday night, the team managed to acquire Luis Castillo, one of the best starting pitchers available at the deadline for trading, from the Cincinnati Reds. The Mariners were all in the running for the postseason.
But during the Mariners’ July 30 game against rival Houston Astros, fans received a huge panic.
At the top of the eighth inning, Rodriguez swung into the field thrown by Rafael Monteiro, but was hit right in the wrist. It was the third hit, but Rodriguez seemed to be in great pain while holding his right hand.

Despite the fear, Rodriguez remained in the match, taking center stage. But at the top of the ninth inning, where he was replaced by a pinch hitter Abraham Toro.
This season, Rodriguez has cut .271/.334/.482 while scoring 18 home runs, 57 RBI, and 99 hits.
As for the Mariners, they were 4-3 behind in the ninth inning, but were able to take a 5-4 lead thanks to Toro, hitting one field to the right, allowing Jesse Winker and Adam Frazier to score.
Paul Seewald took the 5-4 win after José Altuve was forced out of the match, knocked out by Yuli Gurriel, and Jordan Alvarez was defeated.
Rodriguez’s situation is clearly worth keeping an eye on after the match. It will remain to be seen if Rodriguez will ever have to miss, or if he will be able to play.
