The Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals conducted less trade with Juan Soto.
The Atlanta Braves announced earlier today that Iyer Adrianza is back for his second assignment in the Braves uniform, this time in a simple deal with the Washington Nationals in exchange for minor league defensive player Trey Harris. Robinson Canó has been appointed to the DFA to make way for Adriánza in both the 40-man roster and the active.
There is a lot to unpack here.
It wasn’t quite the trade that Braves fans were hoping for when the title ‘Braves Trade with the Nationals’ appeared on their phones, with Nationals star Juan Soto still the biggest name being thrown in trade rumors as we approach the MLB trade deadline.
Of course, Atlanta is not mentioned as one of the The ultimate teams in running for Soto, but you can’t blame fans for trying.

In Ehire Adrianza, the Braves acquire a player familiar to them. He was part of their World Championship winning team last season and had the best full season statistically speaking in the major tournaments with them.
Adrianza is the type of player where you know exactly what you’re going to get when he joins the team. He’s the super light-hit companion man who can play every spot and outdoor corner. He’s a switch hitter with no pop to speak of, but he has a strong eye on the board and is a troublesome slap hitter who’s become increasingly unfamiliar in modern baseball except for someone like Luis Araz.
This year, Adrianza has 31 senior games under his belt, leading seven runs and spreading 35 OPS+ while serving as a bench bat for the Nats, a role he will continue in Atlanta.
in Trey Harris, the Nationals are acquiring a minor league player who could potentially approach his first taste of the big league. Harris is 26 and is a corner backer with some pop in his racket.
Strikes have been a problem for Harris over the course of his minor league career, as has his health. Since being named to the 2018 MLB Draft, Harris has made more than 100 appearances in a season just once. This season in the Braves affiliate Double-A Mississippi, Harris has two home runs, 16 RBI and 0.238 average in 59 games.
And finally, Robinson Cano, who took the DFA title for the third time this season. The 39-year-old second baseman has struggled hard this year, scoring 25 times in 33 games and posting an OPS+ of 7. Yes, you read that right.
Kanu’s career will likely end at this point as he has failed to publish anything close to the respectable offensive numbers of the Mets, Padres and now Braves. Once he’s become one of the game’s scariest players, the time lost due to PED’s multiplayer suspension finally seems to catch up to him.
