The two sides have not been able to reach an agreement on the contract extension, which means he will play on the franchise tag for 2022. The thing is that Brown has yet to sign it.

Monday was an important day for the Chiefs, as this was the first practice in which players wore pads.
Brown and the chiefs tried to reach an agreement on a contract extension by the July 15 deadline, but were unable to do so. According to Adam Scheffer of ESPNThe team offered Brown a six-year contract worth $139 million, which included a signing bonus of $30.25 million. However, the Chiefs have the opportunity to negotiate with Brown once the 2022 season is over.
Having Brown in training camp is pretty big, considering it’s the blind interference of Patrick Mahomes in the middle, after all. Not only that, but the offense underwent an overhaul, especially the passing attack. Gone are Terek Hill and Byron Pringle, and here’s Joe Smith Schuster, Marquis Valdes-Scantling, and Skye Moore.
