Trading the Reds with Tommy Pham is a real slap in the face

The Cincinnati Reds have traded defensive player and entertainer Tommy Pham for the Boston Red Sox.

Tommy Pham, the Slap Heard’ Round the World dealer earlier this season, was traded to the Boston Red Sox. While this move likely wouldn’t go down as one of the most influential deals, it’s certainly a slap in the face for a player of the status of a femme to be dealt with.

Well, it looks like he’s going to go from the Cincinnati Reds to being a part of the Red Sox Phamily.

Puns aside, Pham has had a bearish year with the struggling Reds, who currently sit at 40-61, 16.5 GB of the Brewers’ top team at NL Central. Pham has 11 home runs and 39 RBI in 91 games for Cincy with an OPS+ of 88.

Reds: Tommy Pham traded to Boston

The Red Sox is walking a fine line on this year’s deadline, choosing a position in the middle between buying and selling assets. With Cristian Vazquez substituting the dugout and heading to the Astros, Boston immediately ended another deal by boosting their stadium.

As things are currently the Red Sox, the outside picture consists of Alex Verdugo, Jarren Duran and Jackie Bradley Jr. From left to right. While Verdugo is a solid contributor to this lineup, Duran and JBJ have been below average offensive forces (although their gloves are great for the Sox).

Pham will bring more pop to this squad and is able to play all three outside positions, with most of his time in the major tournaments split between left and center.

A free agent at the end of the season, Pham has post-season experience under his belt (2015 with Cardinals, 2019 with Rays and 2020 with Padres) and has already done well, hitting three home runs and posting a 352 batting average in 56 postseason board positions.

The commercial payout has yet to be announced, but the Reds are unlikely to get much value for Pham’s services, as he is a veteran whose performances on the field have begun to wane in recent years.
