The St. Louis Cardinal will have a big presence representing them on Team USA at the World Baseball Classic where Paul Goldschmidt will shine once again.
Except that he forgets how to play baseball, all indications are that St. Louis Cardinals first player Paul Goldschmidt will win the National League MVP title when the season is over. He was a monster for the Redbirds in the 2022 season.
But he is now looking to be a monster for America before the start of the 2023 campaign.
On Saturday, it was confirmed that Goldschmidt will rejoin Team USA at the World Baseball Classic once again after playing and helping the US win the gold medal the last time the event was held in 2017.
Cardinals nominee, MVP Paul Goldschmidt, joins Team USA for the World Baseball Classic
Goldschmidt joins an already star-studded roster forming for Team USA as Mike Trout was announced as the team captain and then Red Sox number two Trevor Storey later confirmed he would be joining the team as well.
Back in 2017, Goldschmidt – then a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks – was part of the US unit but didn’t produce all that well as he only managed one hit in five appearances, despite scoring two games in the competition.
With that said, Goldschmidt has taken his play to another level this season, hence his status as the NL MVP. He’s cut a ridiculous .330/.411/.609 this season with the Cardinal with 26 home runs, 82 RBI points, 73 points and a good 28 double.
This bat will be of great interest to Team USA as they already make up a team to defend the crown.
The World Baseball Classic will take place across Taiwan, Japan, and the United States with quarterfinal and championship matches in Miami. The tournament will take place from March 8 to 21 in 2023 after being postponed from 2021 due to COVID-19.
