Garen Doran doesn’t get the job done. Who are the three players on the Boston Red Sox’s roster who should get playing time over their quarterback?
Being a big customer isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. Garen Duran Learn it the hard way. The 25-year-old received a relatively long look in midfield and, at times, a completely lost spin.
This was especially true over the weekend during the seventh inning of Sunday’s game between the Boston Red Sox and the Kansas City Royals. The Royals won the affair 13-5 and are in the AL East vault with just under two months until play kicks off after the season ends.
Red Sox in no man’s land. 4.5 games of Wild Card and after failing to do much of anything on the trade deadline, unless things take an abrupt turn, Chaim Bloom and the front office in Boston may want to turn their attention to next season.
Now that doesn’t mean the team should ditch Garen Duran as their quarterback, but maybe he shouldn’t get much playing time during the final two months of the 2022 season. Are there any players who should be getting playing time instead? Let’s look at three possibilities.
1. Jeter Downs must get time to play Red Sox CF Jarren Duran.
No, Jeter Downs doesn’t play in midfield, but the Boston Red Sox need to see what they have in the young player. With Xander Bogaerts able to pull out of the current contract while on vacation and Trevor’s story on IL, this is the perfect time to see if Downs has a future in Boston.
Downs was a major acquisition in the trade that sent the Mookie Betts to the Los Angeles Dodgers, so just letting go of the 24-year-old would send a shocking message to the fan base. While it’s true that Downs looked a bit too much during his time in the seniors earlier this season, the rookie only received 41 rackets.
Garen Duran has been a disappointment since arriving at the major tournaments earlier this season. The Red Sox have a great mix of guard players who could fill their jobs if the Boston front office decides to turn Duran back to Triple-A in order to work on some things.
