Bob Nightengale jinxed Drew Rasmussen literally one step before his pitcher Rays’ Perfect Game show was crushed.
Baseball has a lot of unwritten rules. One of them works like a fight club. Just as you’re not talking about Fight Club, you’re not talking about no-conflict and perfect games.
As the baseball player on USA Today, Bob Nightengale definitely knows it. However, he continues to use his Twitter for evil by jinxing every unsuccessful attempt that comes up.
On Sunday, it wasn’t like that, I sensed it. Drew Rasmussen’s eight innings were perfect for baseball.
Nightengale noted the Rays pitcher and his pursuit of perfection on Twitter ahead of the start of the ninth inning. On the next court, Orioles’ Jorge Matteo hit a double down the left field line.
Twitter summoned Bob Nightingale for the perfect Jinxing Drew Rasmussen game
Jeff Bassan was shaking his head.
The rest of Twitter was, too.
Come on, Bob. Perhaps your tweets don’t transfer their damned energy to the batsmen eager to break up a perfect no-hitter or a perfect game. The jinx may be a figment of our imagination. Perhaps talking about what is happening on the archer’s hill does not affect the archer’s performance.
But it may be so! Perhaps, just once, you can try not to send that tweet letting your followers know what’s happening in a random playground on a Sunday afternoon. Give it a chance, respect the power of Jinx, and let’s see what happens. It can be fun.
Reyes went on to beat the Orioles 4-1.
