Anthony Rizzo loses it after the referee overturned and hit the floor

Anthony Rizzo, Yankees first team captain, was furious after taking a knock and referee DJ Rayburn canceled the call because he bowed to the contact.

Anthony Rizzo has always seemed like one of the cool guys in baseball, but on Monday we saw him practically overcome a row with a referee.

During the bottom of the third, Rizzo was on the plate facing shooter Ryan Yarbro when he took a curve ball to the thigh.

The Yankees player thought he was going straight to first base but home board referee DJ Rayburn ruled he bowed to the field.

https://twitter.com/TalkinYanks/status/1559329764569227270 Rizzo immediately faced judgment with manager Aaron Boone, who rushed out of the bunker as soon as the call was made.

Given how excited Rizzo was, he could have been thrown but he avoided that fate, swinging and losing on the next pitch to hit.

His emotions were still high when he returned to the lair.

Then, Rizzo is seen in front of the camera very clearly saying, “Where was I supposed to go?”

Angry Rizzo is a rare sight. It took a rare call to get her out of him.

The referee had the right to call off the knockout, but it certainly wasn’t a necessary call. The ball was off the board and in the batter’s box for Rizzo. He could have definitely done more to avoid it. Nor did he manipulate his body in a terrible way.

The referee could have saved this call when the player tries to bend into the strike zone to get the HBP. This was not the case.

Whatever the call, Rizzo’s frustration can be attributed to more than just an upside down call. The Yankees are coming off a losing streak in favor of the Sailors, Cardinals, Mariners once again and the Red Sox. They just lost DJ LeMahieu to injury and then lost their 11th game in their last 14 games Monday night as the Rays took the first game in this week’s series 4-0.
