MLB.com has released their top 10 MLB odds, and it looks like there are a few names missing from the list.
Francisco Alvarez, the game’s top potential player, was ranked #1 overall, According to MLB Pipeline. That seems fair. Alvarez is playing a central position, and has an impressive campaign in 2022. Mets fans may be lucky enough to see Alvarez make his major league debut as soon as next season.
But after Alvarez, many of the top potential clients are arguably out of order. Another talented player, Gabriel Moreno is Toronto’s top potential player, but he scored an OPS of just 0.768 in Triple-A before being called up to the major leagues.
The Miami Marlins pitching probability Eury Perez has an electric fastball and plus change, but you wouldn’t know it based on this year’s stat streak. The right hand has a lot of hits, but 4.19 ERA too. So what is the probability that the MLB, who should have been ranked in the top 10, is eliminated?
Elly De La Cruz should be ranked among the top 10 odds for MLB.
Let’s start with the five potential Cincinnati Reds tool Elly De La Cruz. One could argue that De La Cruz is not only in the top 10 odds, but the 20-year-old might be the best young prospect in the game today.
De La Cruz is ranked 15th, but in both the High-A and the Double-A, Shortstop crushed 26 home points and stole 36 bases while posting a 976 OPS. De La Cruz should easily rank among the top 10 prospects for MLB and should be ahead of every other short prospect in the minor leagues. This includes Gunnar Henderson, Anthony Volpi and Marcelo Mayer.
