Brian Cashman tests Yankees fans’ faith once again with Jordan Montgomery’s comments

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman says he has no regrets about swapping Jordan Montgomery for the St. Louis Cardinals for injured defensive back Harrison Bader.

The New York Yankees were among the most active teams on the trade deadline, but were they too active? They brought in defender Andrew Benintende, starting bowler Frankie Montas, and relief pitcher Scott Evros to bolster their positions. But the team decided to move on from bowler Jordan Montgomery, and replaced him at the St. Louis Cardinals for soccer player Harrison Bader, who is still recovering from a foot injury.

Since Montgomery joined the Cardinals, he has dominated opponents, and his last game on August 22 was a full match where he succumbed to only one blow against the Chicago Cubs in a 1–0 win.

While appearing on the podcast “The Show” With John Hyman and Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said he has no regrets about dealing with Montgomery in exchange for Bader.

Brian Cashman Doesn’t Regret Trading Jordan Montgomery

“We’ve been extra defensive in every position except center field, so now we’re in a position if we can break up that present, which we expect we can, we just have to wait for a while,” said Cashman. h/t New York Post. “When we do that, Aaron Boone will have a legitimate option in the field of a center that we hope will serve us well. It’s hard to get and that’s why the cost has been so high. So stay tuned and we’ll see how it goes. We don’t regret, because that’s where we knew that we’ll be in it…you’ll have to steal from Peter to pay Paul sometimes.”

It might not be something Yankees fans want to hear, especially since the team is finally starting to come out of its epic slump, where running on the board has seemed like a chore for the team (and a must-watch fan base).

The New York center is undoubtedly the weakest of the team. Aaron Hicks is a handicap in the hitting zone, and he struggled in defense, which was his strength zone. A terrible match against the Tampa Bay Rays in August sent Hicks to the bench.

Badr is one of the best defensive midfielders in the game, as evidenced by the Golden Glove award he won last year. The problem is that Bader is recovering from plantar fasciitis while wearing walking shoes. He may not be ready to come back until the end of the season. This wasn’t news Yankees loyalists enjoyed hearing, and it only got worse when the team fell into their terrible slump.

The recession was severe as Cashman (when his name is mentioned) and his team Owner Hal Steinbrenner was booed during Paul O’Neill’s retirement party. That same slack as manager Aaron Boone showed his anger at a press conference for what appeared to be the first time in his five years as a manager by banging his hand on a table.

To make matters worse for the fan base, Montgomery turned off the lights with his new team. In his four starts with the Cardinals, Montgomery scored a 0.35 ERA, 0.623 WHIP, 4-0 record, 24 strikes and three walks in 25.2 innings.

Obviously, things could change once Badr is finally healthy enough to start the Yankees. But let’s be real here, Cashman wouldn’t say he regretted trading Montgomery weeks after making the move.
