The New England Patriots are weeks away from the start of the regular season, and three top players can watch them from afar.
It is that time of the year. From 80 to 53, the New England Patriots were no exception to this reality. They will have decisions to make. Soon, coaches and general managers will meet to discuss which players to continue with and who to bid farewell to.
Every year, some players perform so well in pre-season that coaches notice them and reward them with a place on the roster. The opposite is true for those who do not. Also, there are instances when the number of teams runs out and you end up losing a top player.
It’s a challenging process but also surprising, especially for those who thought they would stay but eventually have to turn in their playbooks. That’s where the thrill comes in, and for a few Patriots, it’s about ramping up the competition rather than slowing it down — the natural business of the NFL.
Now that the situation has been introduced and everything is in place, let’s take a look at three players who, by name, were thinking of staying safe on the roster but may find themselves looking for a new team by the end of pre-season.
The Patriots: 3 Surprising Cuts New Englanders Can Make By Week One
3. WR Nelson Agulur
This would be a huge surprise given the current situation with the vast reception location in New England. However, it’s not outside of the Patriots’ purview if they wish to go forward, and it may pertain to Agulor’s current cap structure.
However, that wouldn’t be a good move, mainly due to the lack of the receiving corps in New England, and Tyquan Thornton’s loss of some time to injury leaves them with a loophole in their fast arsenal. So, cutting Aholor would be wrong.
However, the maximum that Agulor’s contract has currently reached may be grounds for restructuring or cancellation. Additionally, last season Agholor recorded 37 catches for just over 400 yards and three runs. Not exactly great cash value and great production. Just something to watch.
