It was Derek Jeter’s day at Yankee Stadium on Friday and Yankees fans enjoyed the opportunity to honor the legendary shortstop.
Derek Jeter was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame last year but didn’t get a chance to be honored with a major event at Yankee Stadium yet.
The Hall of Famer was finally fully celebrated on Friday night with Derek Jeter Day to celebrate it as the Hall of Fame.
And as you can imagine, New York made sure Jeter had the heroic welcome he deserved.
Derek Jeter was honored by the Yankees and fans loved it
The stars were out on Jeter but the man himself was the center of attention, that’s for sure.
Yankees fans may love Jeter, but there were plenty of boos for others associated with the organization.
In the end, the day was all about Jeter and fans loved everything about the party before the game between New York and Tampa Bay.
There is now a lot of speculation about the possibility of Jeter taking a role in the front office in New York. He would be a welcome addition there but for now he must be a fan of watching his childhood team play ball.
The Yankees are coming out of a very difficult phase. After losing six of their seven matches, they changed things just in time for Jeter Night with four wins in five games against the Twins.
This series with Rays can be pivotal. Success would put them on track to win the division over Tampa Bay. However, a few stumbles could bring the rays closer in the division race.
As Friday’s date approaches, New York has a 4.5-game lead over tuberculosis.
