Preview and prediction for Nate Diaz vs Tony Ferguson match

UFC 279: Nate Diaz vs Tony Ferguson match preview and prediction.

After two chaotic days of backstage brawls, weight-loss incidents, and a slate of new opponents for the three main battles on the UFC 279 main card, there’s officially a five-round main event between Nate Diaz (20-13) and Tony “El Cocoy” Ferguson (25- 7).

Both Diaz and Ferguson were successful at the 171-pound welterweight limit, and the veterans are expected to deliver exactly what fight fans have wanted all along – a fair and exciting battle between two legends.

Diaz is currently fighting a losing fight and his last fight in his UFC contract, meanwhile Ferguson is riding a four-fight losing steak, so both competitors will be eager to look forward to raising their hands after all the action.

Who will win at UFC 279: Nate Diaz or Tony Ferguson?

The main event will be a slow fight from the first blow thrown to the fifth round bell. Diaz and Ferguson’s methods are somewhat complementary to each other because they both rely on an amazing core with jiu-jitsu as their defense if they are removed.

It’s important to note that Nate Diaz has been fighting at welterweight since 2016 and has a record of 3-6 in the weight class. Diaz will rely on his aerodynamic strength and toughness, along with his inner octagonal counterparts to win victory.

Ferguson has an impressive record of 11-2 at 170 lbs. But it’s a fairly new weight class for him because his last welterweight bout was in 2011. “El Cucuy” will use his prowess and sportsmanship to his advantage in this last minute bout. Ferguson was originally scheduled to have a three-round affair with Lee Jin Liang.

As of recently, Ferguson struggled with both strikers and wrestlers, but had a good first round against Michael Chandler until he came out in the cold for the first time. Diaz is usually the first to bleed because of his scar, but in his previous bout, he had a shining moment when he badly hurt current welterweight champion, Leon Edwards.

The Californians are guaranteed to deliver a massive fight that many are expected to remember, considering the visuals of Diaz’s potential final fight in the UFC and a drama-packed fight week. At the moment due to Ferguson’s struggles, Diaz’s stamina and the insistence of the late rounds, I am currently outsmarting the Stockholm-born fighter for the win and his well-deserved farewell.

Prediction: Diaz by unanimous decision.
