Cubs director David Ross jolly congratulated Anthony Rizzo on his managerial debut

New York Yankees’ Anthony Rizzo was the team’s “guest manager” on Wednesday, and his former manager, David Ross, left him a funny text in response.

The Yankees are currently in cruise control, clinching AL East and already having a first-round playoff. As a result, manager Aaron Boone decided to have some fun and named Anthony Rizzo as the club’s “guest manager” for Wednesday’s competition against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Overall, things went very well for the Yankees during the match, as they went on to defeat Toronto by the final 8-3. Rizzo also gave fans some fun antics, but Aaron Judge ended up keeping the spotlight on him when he blew up his 61st home career this season – equaling Roger Maris’ home record in the process.

In fact, Judge’s historical trajectory ended up catching the attention of his former manager, David Ross. While speaking to the media about Rizzo’s managerial beginnings, Ross had this to say:

“I texted him last night and was like, OK, I was able to run race 61 at home with Aaron Judge. That’s a good resume.”

David Ross’ message to Rizzo was nothing short of hilarious.

It’s hard not to love such funny baseball moments. But Ross, who was a former teammate and manager of Rizzo, had a point. Rizzo’s managerial debut coincided with the night Judge made both Yankee and baseball history. This is something that will forever be associated with the time Rizzo drove the dugout, and that’s simply a very cool fact.

It’s great that Rizzo and Ross maintained a strong relationship even after the former traded with the Yankees. Who do you know? Perhaps when Rizzo’s career as a player ends, he can use Ross as a reference to get a manager job because of their friendship off the field. As Ross mentioned in his script, he does have the number 61 Judge on his resume, after all.
