Tony La Russa is surprisingly strict with the White Sox’s resignation.
On Monday afternoon, Chicago White Sox manager released a statement revealing that he is stepping down as team manager.
The decision was made, in part, due to health concerns.
“None of the matters at any point in time negatively affected my responsibilities as White Sox manager,” La Russa said in the statement. “However, it has become clear that the length of treatment and recovery for this second health issue makes it impossible for me to be the White Sox manager in 2023. The timing of this announcement now allows the front office to include filling in the manager with their other off-season priorities.”
The other was due to the team’s performance this season.
“Our team’s record this season is the ultimate reality,” said La Rosa. It is an unacceptable disappointment. There were some positives, but a lot of negatives. In the major leagues, you either do or you don’t. Explanations come via excuses. Respect and trust require accountability, and throughout my managerial career, I’ve come to realize that the ultimate responsibility for every imperfection rests with the manager.
“I have been appointed to provide support and positive leadership that makes a difference. We scored proof. I did not do my job.”
This is an evolving story and will be updated soon.
