Young Broncos star running back Jafonte Williams will miss the rest of the season after being torn up in the AFC Champions League and Denver needs those players to advance now.

Losing to the Raiders to give Las Vegas their first win of the 2022 season and Josh McDaniels’ stint with the Silver and the Black wasn’t what the Denver Broncos wanted to see on Sunday. But now things have gotten worse regarding the return of Javonte Williams.

Williams came into the year with a lot of hype around him and led the team in rushing four games but now they will have to move on without the former UNC Tar Heel. In the loss to the Raiders, Williams suffered a rupture in the AFC Champions League and LCL will end his season in 2022.

With Denver’s offensive underperforming to this point and with the defense also suffering injuries to the likes of Randy Gregory, it’s time for the other players to step up and rise to the occasion in a real moment. Now these three Broncos in particular must step up their games.

Broncos substitutes Jafonte Williams: Russell Wilson, QB

That was likely true regardless of Williams’ health, but Russell Wilson needed to be the quarterback that the Broncos gave up on a slew of recruiting choices and then generously paid to keep them long-term, something he hasn’t consistently done since arriving in Denver.

Oddly enough, losing to the Raiders actually produced one of Wilson’s best games since he started riding with the Broncos Country. The former Seattle star went 17 of 25 for 237 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for a hit as well.

On the whole, though, it was a bit disappointing as Wilson ranked 21st out of 32 qualifying quarterbacks in the QBR this season (44.5) with just 980 yards passing, four touchdowns and one interception and a completion rate of just 61.1 percent.

Although there are capable veteran players taking charge in the back court, losing a dynamic and versatile playmaker like Williams will put increasing pressure on Wilson to be connected to top class signals. That’s what Denver pays him to be, so now he has to live up to those bills.
