Roger Maris Jr.’s congratulatory tweet to Aaron Judge offers a hint of shade

Roger Maris Jr. cast some serious shade over the likes of Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa in a congratulatory tweet to Aaron Judge.

Judge made his 62nd home run of the 2022 season Tuesday night against the Texas Rangers. This home race broke the tie with Yankees legend Roger Maris for the most in a single season in Major League history.

The main footnote there, of course, is the history of the American League. Maris’ record was passed by Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, and Sammy Sosa in the late 1990s and early 2000s, with all three playing in the National League.

These three players also had relationships with performance-enhancing drugs. If it were up to people like Roger Maris Jr., the home run for one season would be erased or an asterisk would be placed on those three.

Maris Jr. has been present for most of Judge’s chase, along with the Yankees’ current mother.

Roger Maris Jr. casts a shadow over PED users while congratulating Aaron Judge

Maris Jr. has been consistent in this regard. Since appearing in the national spotlight as Judge approached 62, Maris Jr. has used his platform to question the achievements and authenticity of others. It should also be noted that the original Roger Maris scored 61 times in 161 games, while Babe Ruth scored 60 in 151 games, but who counts anyway?

We Invited Enjoy the moment – One of the truly memorable running chases in recent memory – before automatically engaging in a baseball debate like this one is First Take.

Bonds, McGwire, and Sosa have all been linked to performance-enhancing drugs, but that’s not necessarily true when they were taken, or how often they were taken. Preferred Maris Jr. To have two records, one for so-called clean players, and one for those who took PEDs.

Unfortunately for Maris Jr., there are actually two records – most home runs in National League history, and most home runs in MLS history. His father now does not carry either.
