The New York Mets dropped their lineup in Game 1 of the NLDS, with a nice surprise for fans at Citi Field – defensive player Starling Marte is back.
Game 1’s lineup in New York will look a bit like Start 9 in early September – meaning Marte will be on hand.
Marty sustained a finger injury in September, and has missed the past few weeks as a result. Many thought he wouldn’t be named to the postseason list at all. After adding Marte to the roster, ESPN’s Buster Olney provided an injury update for the 33-year-old:
“The Mets worked on the Starling Marte on Thursday afternoon, before the media was in the building. Wearing a splint he found comfortable, he took BP alive against pitchers—and told the staff he felt fine. He wanted more BP, but they shut him down to save the vagaries. Well let’s go,” Olney Books.
This is a few days after Director Buck Showalter said that Marty He was even struggling to hold a baseball game.

Marte wasn’t the only surprise on the New York Wild Card list, as Darin Ruf and Francisco Alvarez were also added. Ruf has struggled since the San Francisco Giants acquired him, to the point that Mets fans have been calling for him to be the DFA post-trading deadline.
Meanwhile, Alvarez is the No. 1 potential player in all of baseball. His first hit in MLB was a 439-foot home run, so New York is hoping he can flash some of that power if the series is called up.
As for Marte, he’ll be the least hit-and-miss in the series, and he brings stable defense to the right field or center field, depending on how the Mets plan to employ him.
