Does Texas Football Need Ranking After Red River Root and Queen Ewers Return?

Texas football destroyed Oklahoma against Red River so impressively that voters might consider ranking Queen Ewers and Longhorn.

Is there anything sweeter than the victory of competition? Yes, defeat the rivalry.

The Texas Football Club pulled off that 49-0 win on Saturday, taking their frustrated opponent and shoving them to the ground.

Quinn Ewers is back and looking like a five-star quarterback with four touchdowns on his comeback from injury.

Now, it’s not so crazy to ask whether Longhorns deserve some recognition in the polls.

Should Texas Football Be Classified?

The argument for the Texas is that their loss was by four points combined. One came without Ewers for three quarters against the first team in the ground, Alabama. It was second again without the Ewers on the road against Texas Tech.

Texas Tech only lost itself to the seeded teams and gave Oklahoma State No. 7 all they could afford on Saturday.

Now that the Ewers are back, Longhorn’s offense can reach its true potential. They proved it against Oklahoma. And that would scare the rest of the Big 12.

The argument against Texas probably relates more to Oklahoma than UT. It will likely take more than a 49-point win over a team that has lost three consecutive games, including two by more than 30 points, for a team that has lost twice to prove its worth in the rankings.

Ewers and Company need to empty against a defense that wasn’t already bleeding yards and points.

Texas needs quality wins to line up with quality losses. Opportunities are deteriorating. Next week, Longhorns get to Iowa. Then they will travel to take on Oklahoma State and Kansas State in consecutive weeks. They will conclude the season with matches against TCU, Kansas, and Baylor.
