Alabama avoids Texas A&M’s second straight upset: College football’s reaction

Alabama Crimson Tide found a way to survive a late comeback attempt by Texas A&M Aggies, winning 24-20 to remain undefeated.

Last year, the Texas A&M Agies scored a massive win over the Alabama Crimson Tide to end their undefeated season. On October 8, 2022, Aggies tried to do the same thing again.

Alabama did their best to keep the Texas A&M team in the game and give them the win in the end. That was evident in the final play of the game, where Crimson Tide’s interception was returned due to defensive pass interference. That gave the Aggies two yards to get into the end zone, but quarterback Heinz King threw a pass over the edge and out of reach of his intended receiver, Evan Stewart, sealing the 24-20 win for Crimson Tide.

Members of the college football media reacted to the game that could have gone well either way.

Prior to the match, it was revealed that Bryce Young would not start the game. Instead, it was Galen Millerow who held Young’s position the previous week after suffering a sprained AC joint in his shoulder. In this game, Crimson Tide prioritized running the ball, as they had 51 moves for 19 pass attempts.

What really hit Crimson Tide was that they turned the ball four times, three times in tackles. That, and kicker Will Richard missed two field goal attempts (47 yards, 35 yards) which should help Alabama avoid a close upset.

Millro completed 11 of 19 pass attempts for 111 yards and three touchdown attempts, while throwing one interception. The quarterback also ran for 83 yards on 17 buggies.

King threw 25 completions for 253 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in 46 pass attempts.

Crimson Tide avoided getting upset, but next week, they won’t be able to make similar mistakes. They face off against the undefeated Tennessee Volunteers, led by Heisman candidate Hendon Hooker.
