After a week off, the event returns to the UFC Apex for UFC Vegas 62. The fight card currently features 12 fights and begins at 4PM ET on ESPN+ Saturday October 15, 2022.
The high-stakes women’s flyweight fight is the main event, with Grasso seeded #5 (-215) against #6 Araujo (+185) to face it. Mexican Grasso enters the competition in a winning streak three times after losing to current champion Carla Esparza. Her last win was by naked rear choke over Joanne Wood. Grasso has gone to the scorecards in four of her last five fights.
Araujo has gone the distance in her last six fights, most recently with a unanimous victory over Andrea Lee. However, Brazilian Araujo faces a big step up in competition in Grasso. She struggled in a similar position in a 2021 loss to top contender Catelyn Chukajian.
In the co-main event, Jonathan Martinez (-205) started against UFC Hall of Famer Cub Swanson (+175) in the bantamweight division. Factory X Martinez producer wins three fights in a row, all by decision. Swanson’s main question is to bring the weight down to his bantam weight, which is a first for him. His last fight was a brutal first-round stop on the incredibly tough Darren Elkins, which showed the 38-year-old Swanson had plenty left in the tank.
The fight that some have described as the main event for people is the flyweight fight between No. 4 Askar Ascroft (-245) versus No. 5 Brandon Royal (+205). Askarov comes off his first professional loss to Kai Kara-France, who defeated Royval.
UFC Vegas 62 doesn’t feature as many lopsided betting lines as most. For example, the favorite night begins with a fight with Pete Rodriguez (-675) against Mike Jackson (+500).
