The Houston Astros may be the best team left in MLB Posteason, but one of their best players at Jose Altuve can’t buy a hit right now.
Jose Altuve’s struggles make the Astros’ accomplishments even more impressive this season. Altuve has routinely featured in this Houston team’s big games, specifically the AL Pennant games in 2017 and 2019. Who could forget his blast to defeat the Yankees in 2019 over Aroldis Chapman?
However, in 2022, Altuve cannot buy success. By 4.5 playoff games, Altuve is 0 against 21 off the board.
Houston Astros star Jose Altove continues to suffer
Manager Dusty Baker is still convinced Altuve will eventually break through his slack, but Houston can’t afford to hold a hole near the top of the lineup for long.
“Mentally strong people have a way of dealing with downturns,” said Dusty Becker, Astros director. Before starting ALCS. “We just have to focus and focus. And when you’re in a downward spiral, man, sometimes it’s hard to get out. I don’t care who you are. But I expect big things from Altuve – because he expects big things from himself.”
Considering Altuve’s status as one of the only players left from the 2017 Houston World Team – aka the signal-stealing squad – is receiving a lot of criticism on social media.
Of course, the Altuve hit didn’t matter in the long run. As they did all the post-season, Houston rallied around its fallen star. Alex Bregman bumped into a three-stroke race to give the Astros an early lead, knocking Yankees player Luis Severino out of the bout.
If the Altuve continues, the Yankees and the rest of baseball should be officially notified.
