Los Angeles Dodgers third captain Justin Turner spoke about the team’s disappointing race after the season ended and refused to make excuses.
The Los Angeles Dodgers had a tough end to their post-season run when they were knocked out by the San Diego Padres in the NLDS. They had everything going for them in the regular season with the best record in the league and one of the best records ever, and Justin Turner admitted that while also accepting responsibility.
Turner shared a long statement on Instagram Which basically says that he feels all the pain, heartbreak, and frustration that many Dodger believers feel, and that no excuse or blame will change the outcome. He thanked his fans for their love and loyalty through it all.
In a time of grief for the Dodgers, Turner emerged as a perfect example of what class work looks like. It might have been easier to point the finger and blame everything that went wrong on others, but no matter what, the result will always be that the Dodgers never skip the NLDS in 2022.
Turner noted several highlights of the season, including groundbreaking attendance at home and on the road. Their presence was so strong that “their zip code was banned from buying tickets for the final in the south”. Dribbling fans may have seen the end of the season in a disappointing fashion, but they still have a lot to be proud of this season.
Dodgers fans should still be proud of the success of the regular season
The Dodgers have gone through a lot of team development over the past few years. They’ve often topped the NL West standings, but their division wasn’t necessarily the most competitive. Compared to the entire league, the Dodgers’ squad has been slightly above the league average until this season.
They’ve signed a lot of big talent over the past few seasons, including Freddy Freeman, Mocky Bates, and Tria Turner. This significantly boosted their lineup, and in this regular season, they finished with the fourth-best hitting average (.257), best on-base percentage (.333), second-best batting average (.442) and best OPS (.775) ).
Just a season ago, they were almost unimpressive. Although they still had obvious talent in the lineup, they were not seen as the best. In 2021, they finished the regular season with an 11th-best hit (.244), fifth-best on base (.330), seventh-best slowdown (.429) and sixth-best OPS (.759).
They won the 2020 World Championship, which was one of the most erratic seasons in history due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This was their third World Championship appearance between 2017 and 2018, but they lost the previous two in 2017 and 2018. Prior to that, their last appearance was in 1988. They obviously started gathering themselves as competitors by the end of 2010.
This season, they exploded onto the scene, ending the regular season with a record of 111-51 and a win percentage of 0.685. Although they did not beat the Padres in the NLDS, they did beat them on every regular season.
They also had good acting with Freeman leading the league in (199) and a double (47). They have continued to improve each season and there is a lot to be proud of, Turner reminded fans during this difficult time.
